News
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024) is coming to theaters this winter: on Christmas Day in the U.S. and on New Year’s Day in Mexico. This new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula stars Lily-Rose Depp as a woman who, as depicted in the newest trailer, has a connection with a creature that is “a force more powerful than evil.”
The score for Eggers’ vampire picture was composed by Robin Carolan (The Northman) and will be released on November 22. Sacred Bones Records has several physical editions available for pre-order on their website.
This October marks the 50th anniversary of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), undoubtedly one of the most important films in the history of horror. To celebrate this very special milestone, Dark Sky Films is not only releasing a new physical edition of Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece, but also bringing it back to theaters across the U.S. throughout this month. Get all the details of the re-release on the distributor’s site.
The new trailer for MadS (2024) makes you think it’ll be a French drug-fuelled horror/zombie movie that was directed by someone who loves Gaspar Noé. MadS, which was “filmed in one continuous shot,” will be available to stream on Shudder from October 18.
The documentary Alien on Stage (2020), which world premiered three and a half years ago at SXSW, is finally having a VOD release in the U.S. and Canada (on October 8). The doc follows a group of amateur theater performers from England, as they adapt Ridley Scott’s space horror classic Alien (1979) for the stage. You can check out its new trailer here.
Falling Stars (2023) is a low-budget American film that creates its own mythology about witches: in late October they descend to earth. The plot follows three brothers as they set out to witness “a dead witch buried by their friend.” Falling Stars was shown last year at Locarno and Fantastic Fest, and is now heading to select U.S. theaters and VOD on October 11 (trailer here).
Festivals
The 2024 Sleepy Hollow International Film Festival (SHIFF) will take place from October 10 to 13, in the historic New York towns of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown.
