Fangoria, the quintessential horror magazine, announced the nominees for this year’s Chainsaw Awards. Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise (2023) and Arkasha Stevenson’s The First Omen (2024) lead the nominations with seven each. Both are included in the Best Director and Best Wide Release Movie categories. Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool (2023) and the Philippou’s Talk to Me (2022) scored six noms. Demián Rugna’s When Evil Lurks (Cuando acecha la maldad, 2023) was nominated in four categories, including Best International Movie and Best Director. You can vote for your favorite exponents of horror until July 20. The winners will be revealed in October.

Horror streamer Shudder has presented the new installment in the popular V/H/S franchise. Titled V/H/S/Beyond (2024), the anthology is scheduled to hit Shudder on October 4, just in time for spooky season! V/H/S/Beyond consists of six segments or “tapes”: Jordan Downey’s Stork, Christian and Justin Long’s Fur Babies, Justin Martinez’s Live and Let Dive, Virat Pal’s Dream Girl, Kate Siegel’s Stowaway (which was penned by Mike Flanagan), and a “Special Presentation” by Jay Cheel.

Before the highly anticipated Terrifier 3 (2024) arrives in theaters this October, another slasher involving Damien Leone and David Howard Thornton (the man behind Art the Clown) will hit the big screen. The Michael Leavy-directed, Leone-produced Stream (2024) is set in a hotel where the guests experience the sheer terror of a game that rewards the player with the most kills. Stream has a new trailer, featuring Jeffrey Combs as the deranged hotel manager and Thornton as one of the four masked killers. The horror movie heads to U.S. theaters on August 21.

 

Speaking of Art the Clown, Funko just presented their collection of toys based on Leone’s violent Terrifier franchise. There’re five different Funko Pops of the crazy and murderous Art the Clown, who undoubtedly reached horror icon status after the release of Terrifier 2 (2022). Regarding the news, Leone said that “as a Funko collector, this is one of the biggest honors and a dream come true.” 

Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday) is back with Duchess (2024), an action thriller starring Charlotte Kirk – who also had the lead role in Marshall’s The Reckoning (2020) –. The film follows a young woman who gets involved with a diamond trader. Eventually, she’ll be part of a tale of betrayal and revenge. Duchess is set to be released in UK cinemas on August 12. It’ll also be available for digital download on the same day, via Vertigo Releasing. You can watch the trailer here.

After the massive success of his epic RRR (2022), Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has now become the focus of a new Netflix documentary, titled Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli (2024). As Deadline reported, the doc is set to arrive on Netflix on August 2 and will feature interviews with James Cameron, Joe Russo, Prabhas (star of Rajamouli’s Baahubali), and RRR protagonists Jr NTR and Ram Charan.

According to Variety, the last entry in the main film series within The Conjuring Universe is now officially slated for a September 5, 2025 release. James Wan himself posted on Instagram that this upcoming film – which is currently known as The Conjuring: Last Rites  represents the “end of an era.” Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II) will direct the movie.

The official U.S. Godzilla store has unveiled the first American physical edition of Godzilla Minus One (Gojira -1.0, 2023), to be released in September. The four-disc set includes the fantastic Godzilla period piece on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray (Region Free). It also features the black-and-white version of the film, known as Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, on Blu-ray. It’s worth noting that the supplements don’t have English subtitules.
