“Animation is not a genre for kids. It’s a medium for art, it’s a medium for film, and I think animation should stay in the conversation,” said Mexican director Guillermo del Toro as he accepted the BAFTA for Best Animated Feature for Pinocchio.

To keep animation in the conversation, Ventana Sur, ultimate marketplace for Latin American cinema, is calling for entries for the FANTASMICA! initiative.
If you are an animation or fantasy film professional, this is for you. FANTASMICA! is focused on the work of filmmakers who want to make fantastic and horror genre content in animated short film format. In its DNA are Ventana Sur’s Animation! and Blood Window sections, a union that will surely produce amazing stories.

As is the norm at Ventana Sur and Blood Window, your project will put you in contact with professionals from the animation and fantastic genre film industries and, thus, expand your network of contacts and receive feedback about your project.

In order to participate, your short film must be in the development stage and its duration must not exceed 25 minutes. Also, it must be a mostly Latin American production. The requirements can be consulted at this link. If you still have any questions, please contact fantasmatica@ventana-sur.com. Deadline is Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
