In Search of Nosferatu is an upcoming work from Alexandre O. Philippe, the filmmaker behind such acclaimed documentaries as Kim Novak’s Vertigo (2025), Chain Reactions (2024), and 78/52 (2017).

For In Search of Nosferatu, Philippe has joined forces with archivist Lauren Newport-Quinn – “who can ‘hear’ silent films” –, in order to achieve a two-fold project based on “original prints, DVDs, VHS tapes and laser discs” of F.W. Murnau’s legendary silent horror film Nosferatu (1922).

The official press release says that “In Search of Nosferatu will have two feature film outcomes: a documentary that takes us on the road to uncover these different versions of Murnau’s Nosferatu, and a re-constructed version of the film itself recut from these diverse prints which will be scanned and later made available to the public in a freely accesible online portal, in order to preserve and celebrate their individual beauty and decay.”

Executive producer Patton Oswalt, producer Terri Piñon and producer Alexandra Heller-Nicholas are part of the production team, as well as our own Pablo Guisa, who serves as co-producer.

The Fantastic Pavilion is presently supporting In Search of Nosferatu in Cannes; from May 12 to 23, “members of the team will be on the ground for international co-production and distribution conversations.”
