Warners Bros. Pictures shared the official trailer for Drew Hancock’s Companion (2025), which stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid. The flick, hitting U.S. theaters on January 31, promises to blend romance with sci-fi and horror elements. It’s worth noting that Barbarian (2022) director Zach Cregger served as one of the producers.

Amazon MGM Studios unleashed the trailer for A Working Man (2025), the upcoming actioner that reunites star Jason Statham with director David Ayer after the successful The Beekeeper (2024). This time around, Statham will beat the crap out of a bunch of human traffickers in order to rescue a young woman. A Working Man, which was co-written by Sly Stallone himself, opens in theaters on March 28.

The 82nd Golden Globes took place last Sunday, January 5. Genre and fantasy cinema ended up earning a few awards: Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Demi Moore, The Substance), Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Sebastian Stan, A Different Man), Best Motion Picture – Animated (Flow), and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement (Wicked).

Fangoria unveiled their anticipated Nosferatu (2024) cover, featuring Robert Eggers and Bill Skarsgård’s instantly iconic take on the vampire Orlok. This issue – now available for pre-order – offers “exclusive images of Orlok and details on the film from the cast and crew.”

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare (2025) continues the trend of taking well-known characters from children’s literature to the horror realm. This movie is actually part of the shared universe known as the Poohniverse, which began with the very popular flick Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023).

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare will have a three-day theatrical run in the U.S., from January 13 to 15. Here’s its official synopsis: “The newest entry into the Poohniverse follows Wendy Darling as she strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from the clutches of the evil Peter Pan who intends to send him to Neverland. Along the way she meets Tinkerbell, who is twisted in this version of the story.”

Dark Match (2024) is a new movie that combines the worlds of professional wrestling and horror. According to the official synopsis, it’s about “a small-time wrestling company that accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.”

Dark Match was directed by Lowell Dean, who’s best known for the horror comedy WolfCop (2014). It’ll be available to stream on Shudder on January 31. Watch here its trailer.

Festivals

Two festivals that are part of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) presented the posters for their 2025 editions. The image of the 43rd Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) – to be held from April 8 to 20 – is a “previously unpublished drawing by Milo Manara.” On the other hand, the artwork of the 12th HARD:LINE Film Festival (April 10-13 in Regensburg, Germany) was created by Christian Fernández Larrere.
