A truly exciting deal regarding physical media took shape at the Fantastic Pavilion in Cannes. Severin Films, the great boutique Blu-ray label co-founded and presided by documentarian David Gregory, has partnered with Shudder and IFC Films to release “11 Special Edition physical discs of the most popular Originals and licensed features from the horror subscription streamer.”

The initial slate of films includes: Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral (2012), André Øvredal’s The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), Joko Anwar’s Satan’s Slaves (Pengabdi Setan, 2017) and Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion (Pengadbi Setan 2: Communion, 2022), Can Evrenol’s Baskin (2015), and the remakes Maniac (2012) and Sisters (2006).

Gregory, Sam Zimmerman (Shudder’s Vice President of Programming) and Lucas Verga (AMC Networks Director of Content) brokered the deal. For Zimmerman, “the work done at Severin Films is astounding. They are directly responsible for some of the greatest home video releases ever and seeing a selection of our Shudder and IFC Films gems get the treatment is a delight.”

Gregory commented that they’ve been “working with Shudder since their inception, licensing them nearly 50 top features that include Threads (1984), Cemetery Man (Dellamorte dellamore, 1994), The Changeling (1980), and Severin productions like Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021) and Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau (2014). AMC’s commitment to genre excellence is unmatched, Severin is the market leader in genre UHD and Blu-ray Special Editions, and we look forward to bringing our award-winning skills to these outstanding titles.”
